We took Rt 88 from Jackson this morning and it was such a scenic drive. We have taken Rt 49 before to Lake Tahoe but never this route and we were so glad we took 88.
Once we crossed into Nevada the topography changed quickly. We fueled up in Carson City and headed on 50 East into the Nevada desert. This stretch of highway across Nevada is known as the loneliest Highway in America. The temperatures got as high as 91 degrees. After Fallon as we were heading towards Austin we saw a storm ahead of us.
After checking the radar we sat along the road for about an hour trying to wait out the storm. However, we still ended up having to stop and get rain gear on. The temperature dropped to 53 degrees. We were certainly glad to have heated grips and warm gloves. We made it to the cool mining town of Eureka for the night.
