Day 3 Chicago and start of Rt 66

Wade and I were close to the start of Rt 66 but couldn’t get to the sign because the streets were all blocked due to the looting and rioting. It was really nerve racking and we were glad to get out of Chicago and start our journey on Rt 66. Once we got away from the center of the city, we really enjoyed our start to our journey.
First stop was the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.  It was very beautiful.

We had a nice lunch at the Polk A Dot Drive In on a picnic table in the shade. Met some other people riding the route. We ended up seeing them several times during our day.

This is Ambler’s Texaco in Dwight IL that is restored to what it was like in the 30’s. Gas was $.33 a gallon.
1932 Standard Station in Odell, IL

The Rt 66 Hall of Fame Museum in Pontiac IL was very interesting and covered all of Rt 66 in Illinois.
The morning temperatures were great but it was 90 degrees in the afternoon. We rode 330 miles and called it a day and found some great air conditioning at Hilton Garden Inn in Springfield IL. Relaxed with a cold beer and some ribs and pulled pork.
