Day 4 Rt 66 Illinois into Missouri

First stop this morning was Oak Ridge Cemetery to see the final resting place of Abraham Lincoln. We were the first people there when the gate opened.  What a beautiful setting and the monument is amazing. His wife and three of his children are also interred with him.

The monument has several bronze statutes of Lincoln, soldiers and sailors.

By the 4th day we finally have my luggage strapped down that we didn’t have to adjust it all day.

Rt 66 runs through so many beautiful towns.  We have been through Illinois hundreds of times, but this route was by far our favorite and gave us a different outlook on rural Illinois.
According to the books I have on Rt 66, Illinois has the road marked the best.  They even differentiate between what years of Rt 66 the road was used. There are 3 different configurations for Rt 66.
Soulsby’s Service Garage is is a Shell Station from 1926. I love the car lift that now has a tree growing in it.

The Old Chain of Rocks Bridge over the Mississippi River was a nice stop and was the original route over the river on Rt 66. You can’t drive over the bridge now but we walked the bridge. The river was up and pretty muddy today.
And we crossed into Missouri. We followed Rt 66 through St Louis almost to Eureka.  Then we headed to our second home in Fredericktown MO for a couple days. It was really hot by this afternoon so we were glad to get to our house and go swimming to cool off and relax for the evening. We have driven 1166 miles on the motorcycles so far.
